Shopping Hotel Colorado - Legend Trading Company
Glenwood Springs, CO –
For legendary flavors, local goods, and signature Hotel Colorado gifts, Legends Trading Company in the Hotel Colorado lobby is a one-stop shopping bonanza. Here visitors can sample Arbuckle’s Presidential Reserve Coffee, rich Espresso, fresh-baked goods, natural juices, smoothies, fabled pastries, and delectable desserts. Reminiscent of an old-west general store, Legends’ vintage soda-fountain counter serves guests in a casual atmosphere. Victorian loveseats and marble-topped tables are arranged in a parlor setting where visitors can sip a Milky Way latte or play board games. A giant colorized print on the wall depicts a rugged cowboy pouring Teddy Roosevelt a cup of joe.
Coffee has long been an integral part of the Hotel Colorado dining experience. Hotel Colorado’s own Presidential Reserve coffee captures the essence of Teddy Roosevelt’s personality. This distinguished blend combines the finest coffees from South America and the South Pacific. Rich in flavor with a smooth body and echo of spice, this coffee is produced exclusively for the Hotel Colorado by Arbuckle Coffee Traders.
In 1865, John Arbuckle patented a process for roasting and coating coffee beans to seal in the flavor and aroma when packaged airtight. Bags were labeled Arbuckle’s Ariosa Coffee in bold red and yellow colors with a trademark Flying Angel and to sweeten the deal, each contained a bonus peppermint stick of candy. It soon became a staple in chuckwagons, ranch kitchens, and frontier dining rooms. Now Arbuckle’s coffee comes in exotic flavors like Maple Harvest, French Vanilla, Raspberry Truffle, Chocolate Almond, Chocolate Raspberry, and Mudslide.
For a nostalgic treat, try a Boylan’s Bottleworks Old-Fashioned Creamy Red Birch Beer, Root Beer, or Crème Soda — an East Coast tradition since 1891 — served to Hotel Colorado guests over a century years ago.
To satisfy a sweet-tooth, nibble on a cranberry nut, poppy seed, or banana muffin; white chocolate-raspberry or blueberry scone; chocolate croissant; or freshly baked cookie. Or try locally made toffee and gourmet candies like pecan caramel chews, coconut clusters, chocolate caramel pretzels, and cashew clusters. Solid-chocolate bears made by Colorado-based Stephany’s Chocolate will cure any craving. Don’t forget Fido’s treat, Canine Cookies baked especially for dogs.
A huge selection of unique gifts offers something for everyone. Adorable Teddy Bear collectibles dressed in denim overalls, sweaters, and Victorian dresses await adoption. “Teddy,” named after Teddy Roosevelt, dons spectacles and a green Hotel Colorado vest. A furry black bear named “Pete” honors a real Colorado black bear who resided at the Hotel in the 1920s.
Be sure to take home some blue-ribbon country jams made with Colorado-grown strawberries, rhubarb, peaches, jalapenos, and Bing cherries.
Available tableware includes oversized ceramic and blue enamel-wear mugs, stainless-steel lined copper travel mugs, stone coasters, English bone china tea services decorated with violet, white rose, and dogwood patterns; wine glasses; champagne flutes; and shot glasses.
Apparel embroidered with the Hotel Colorado insignia include polo shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, t-shirts, night shirts, caps in an array of colors. Plush Turkish terrycloth robes and cozy fleece blankets are sure to bring back fond memories of Glenwood Springs. Carry it all in a tote bag featuring a historic watercolor painting of the Hotel Colorado. And don’t forget to send a postcard or note card to the folks back home.
In the evening, curl up with a good book by the fireplace. We recommend the authorized history of our hotel, “Hotel Colorado, Fountains of Enchantment” by Janet Koelling and Kerry Koepping. We also offer historic works such as “Molly Brown: Unraveling the Myth” by Kristen Iversen, “Glenwood Springs: A Quick History,” or “Glenwood Springs: The History of a Rocky Mountain Resort” by local historian Jim Nelson.
Truly a one-of-a-kind shopping experience, Legends Trading Company offers products sold no where other than the Hotel Colorado. Open daily at 6:30 AM.
