48 Hours of Summer With Hotel Colorado

Make the most of a two-day getaway in Glenwood Springs with Hotel Colorado’s summertime itinerary that packs action, adventure, laughter, and leisure into all 48 hours from breakfast to bedtime.

For 130 years, Hotel Colorado has been hosting visitors to stay in historic style while inviting them to dive in and explore all that Glenwood Springs offers, especially in summertime. Hotel Colorado guests typically stay for at least two nights, an ideal duration for a getaway that includes relaxing hot springs, thrilling outdoor activities, and a range of culinary and cultural delights. For planning ease, our 48-Hours of Glenwood Springs itinerary provides options for making the most of your visit from dawn until after dark.

Day 1: Morning

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at Hotel Colorado Restaurant and Bar. You’ll find all your favorites on the menu, including eggs Benedict, omelets, and griddle specialties. For a quick bite to go, stop at Legends Coffee and Gift Shop where barista-perfected coffee and locally-made pastries get your day off to a good start. Alternatively, grab breakfast at one of the local cafes in downtown Glenwood Springs. After fueling up, head to Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park where adventure awaits. All the rides are open this time of year. Top thrillers include the Giant Canyon Swing, Crystal Tower, and the new Defiance Roller Coaster.

Local Tip: Because thunderstorms tend to roll through in the afternoons, mornings are a great time to visit the Adventure Park.

Day 1: Afternoon

After your adrenaline-filled morning, take a stroll through the charming streets of downtown Glenwood Springs. Explore boutiques, art galleries, and souvenir shops, soaking in the town’s relaxed vibe. Glenwood Springs’ history is fascinating, and you don’t have to wander far to catch a glimpse of the past. The Frontier Historical Museum is located in a Victorian-era home, while the Doc Holliday Collection is housed on the basement level of Bullock’s Western Wear.

Local Tip: Pay your respects to dentist-turned-gambler John “Doc” Holliday whose memorial marker is in Linwood Cemetery. His marker is easy to spot by the tributes of cards, dice, and coins left behind.

Day 1: Evening

As the sun sets, unwind at Hotel Colorado with Happy Hour from 4 to 6 p.m. featuring specialty appetizers and $2 off all house wine, domestic beer, and well cocktails. On Friday and Saturday afternoons, local musicians entertain visitors on the veranda. Evening is also a lovely time to take a dip in the hot springs. A pre-bedtime soak at Glenwood Hot Springs Pool or Iron Mountain Hot Springs practically guarantees a restful night’s sleep.

Local Tip: If you want to soak at Iron Mountain Hot Springs/World Springs, make reservations in advance. Reservations, however, are not required at Glenwood Hot Springs Pool.

Day 2: Morning

Start your second day with a summertime river adventure. Depending on your interests, go rafting, fishing, or cycling. Once the warm weather hits, Glenwood’s rivers become a source of recreation for all ages. For a full immersion experience, take a guided rafting trip down the Colorado River. Fishing is another option for a river-centric activity. Count on experienced fishing guides to help you reel in a trophy catch. Another option is to pedal alongside them astride either a manual or electric bicycle. Follow the Rio Grande Trail along the Roaring Fork River or the Glenwood Canyon Recreation Path beside the Colorado River.

Local tip: If you bike the Glenwood Canyon Recreation Path, keep an eye out for the herd of Big Horn Sheep that likes to scramble on the rocks near the pedestrian and bike bridge that spans I-70 before No Name.

Day 2: Afternoon

By mid-afternoon, you’ll be ready to recharge and refuel with something cold and sweet. Check out Glenwood’s craft beer scene at breweries and taprooms downtown. Both the Glenwood Canyon Brewery and Casey Brewing Taproom are award-winning establishments featuring a menu chock-full of thirst-quenching suds. On the sweeter side, try the refreshing frozen cocktails at the outdoor Coppertop Bar at Hotel Colorado.

Local Tip: Indulge a sweet tooth with cones of artisan ice cream or homemade chocolate candies available at shops downtown.

Day 2: Evening

For a hilarious and off-beat experience, spend your evening at the Glenwood Vaudeville Revue. This entertaining show features talented performers showcasing comedy, music, and vaudeville-style acts. Sit back and enjoy a night of laughter and good old-fashioned entertainment.

Local Tip: After the show, stroll back to Hotel Colorado. On the way, take in the night lights—a charming after-dark landscape of lighted trees, vintage neon signs, the changing-color fountain at Glenwood Hot Springs Pool, and the star-filled firmament overhead.
