In 1893, Hotel Colorado arrived on the scene during a thrilling time in the history of America’s West. With its European fashioned spa, the resort surfaced onto a land of prosperity; to serve the wealthy, to house the ailing, to offer a playground to society’s elite. The Hotel Colorado’s originator, Walter Devereux, spared no expense in the creation of the “Grande Dame.” The south court, the current courtyard, had a large pool in its center from which an electrically lit fountain shot a jet of water 185 feet high into the air, making an iridescent rainbow spray against the sunlight. Let the smell of gingerbread abound when you walk past Legends Cafe. View the carolers atop the fireplace in the lobby. Take a picture in front of Santa in his antique sleigh, or imagine a night in the little ski cabin outside the Deveroux Suite. Everywhere you look, there is a magical scene that will surely put you in the holiday spirit.
The hotel’s annual lighting ceremony takes place each year, the weekend after Thanksgiving, when more than one million lights bring the historic hotel to life. There is live entertainment, and a visit from Jolly old St. Nick. It is free to the public.
You can celebrate every season when you visit the Hotel Colorado. From our Easter Day Brunch, to our Thanksgiving Buffet, to our Afternoon Teas, we commemorate special days throughout the year. But most guests will agree, one of the most special times of year comes every Christmas, when our world-famous decorations and lights are revealed to the public with a special Lighting Ceremony.
